\nFor those of you interested in SDGE rates and policies, here is a chance  to speak directly to the California Public Utilities Commission, the state agencies that controls many aspects of our public utilities.  Note that the June 1 hearing is at the Center for the Arts.  UCAN has long been a consumer advocate around SDGE issues.<\/span><\/div>\n

\nPUBLIC PARTICIPATION HEARINGS ON SDG&E\u2019S GENERAL RATE CASE BEFORE THE
\nCALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (CPUC) <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/span>WHY:<\/span><\/strong> <\/span>Your
\ninput is important to the Commissioners and the Administrative Law Judges
\nbecause it is their job to serve the citizens of California making sure
\nSDG&E charges just and reasonable rates.<\/u> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

SDG&E is asking for
\n1.911 BILLION dollars to fund their operations.  As SDG&E\u2019s own
\napplication says: \u201cIf approved, this revenue requirement would be an increase
\nof $133 million over the estimated 2015 revenue requirement, or a 7% increase.\u201d
\n  <\/strong><\/p>\n

SDG&E\u2019s application
\nalso notes that when the impact of commodity costs and regulatory account
\nbalances are included then even with the CPUC approving the extra $133 million
\ndollars in revenue requirement from 2015 to 2016 that customers would see a
\nmonthly bill savings of .25 cents for electricity and .32 cents for gas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

UCAN
\nthinks the rates SDG&E charges are too high, and that SDG&E customers
\ncould use more relief than just .25 for electricity and .32 cents for gas. UCAN
\nbelieves that SDG&E should get less so that ratepayers save more.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Commission needs to
\nhear from SDG&E customers about how customers feel about the service they
\nget from SDG&E and what they think of SDG&E\u2019s rates for electricity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even if you don’t have a
\nspecific issue or question, just showing up lets the Commission and the Utility
\nknow we are watching!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nGeneral Rate Case (GRC) is the major regulatory proceeding<\/u> for
\nCalifornia utilities, which provides the CPUC an opportunity to perform an
\nexhaustive examination of a utility\u2019s operations and costs. Typically performed
\nevery three years, the GRC allows the CPUC to conduct a broad and
\ndetailed review of a utility\u2019s revenues, expenses, and investments in plant and
\nequipment to establish an approved revenue requirement.”<\/span><\/o:p><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n*
\nThe GRC is kicked off by an “application” from the Utility to the
\nCPUC detailing their plans, associated costs (or savings sometimes) and
\nresulting rate changes for which they seek approval.<\/span><\/o:p><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n*
\nMany things in the application are based on projections and forecasts from the
\nUtility.  As anyone knows, the forecasts are only as good as the data
\ninputted and UCAN has serious issues with some of the forecasts used by
\nSDG&E. <\/span><\/o:p><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn
\nthe GRC UCAN and other consumer groups are going to be at the CPUC hearings
\nchallenging SDG&E\u2019s experts.  It would really help us if  the
\nAdministrative Law Judges heard from SDG&E customers directly. <\/span><\/o:p><\/div>\n
