\nHi Everyone,<\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n
\nWe
\nhope you are able to stay cool in the heat. 
\nEveryone is back to school, and a lot is going on this month.  We

\nOAK CREEK HOUSING
\nDEVELOPMENT <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\nThis
\nmonth, we have been busy reviewing the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR)
\nfor the Oak Creek project.  The public
\ncomment period will close Sept 29, so please look at the document and comment
\nto the city.  There are several serious
\nproblems with it.  Due to the close
\nproximity of the site to the Park, we think an expansion of Felicita Park (supported
\nby goals in our local County Subarea plan) should be included in any adopted
\nplan.   Further, we don\u2019t think that
\nhomes should be put in areas where there are potential health risks to future
\nresidents,  all data on contamination
\nshould be available, and any clean up implemented before projects are reviewed
\nor approved.   <\/span><\/div>\n

\nWe
\nare proposing an alternative that includes an expanded park, healthful housing
\nlocations, reduced traffic impacts, and housing.   <\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nCHATHAM BARREL YARD<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\nWe
\ndid a couple tours of the area with local residents and our County Supervisor
\nDave Roberts.  We discussed areas of
\nimpact and several issues facing our area. 
\nWe have produced, courtesy of our wonderful member, some graphics
\nshowing the movement of the plumes.   We
\nhave also responded to multiple media requests for information about the site
\nso, Stay Tuned!  There is a public
\nmeeting on this topic set for September 30, 2014.  See info below.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nWe
\nhave collected over 200 signatures on our petition demanding More Action on Chatham!<\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nPUBLIC PARTICIPATION<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\nWe
\nreceived a response from City Manager Clay Phillips to our recommendation on public
\nparticipation.  The City also agreed to
\nhold a public meeting on Oak Creek and requested a public meeting from DTSC on
\nChatham.  These are all positive steps
\nand we appreciate them.  We still wish
\nthe city\u2019s website was user friendly and that automatic notification would
\noccur and we will seek a meeting with city official to discuss.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nFELICITA CREEK<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\nENU
\ncontinues to try to secure a \u2018Priority designation\u2019 for Felicita Creek in the
\nSan Dieguito Water Quality Improvement Plan (WQIP).  There will be another consultation committee
\nmeeting at the end of October on this issue. 
\nWe have requested a meeting with City Stormwater staff .  We will share more information on this as we
\nreceive it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n

\nThere
\nare several opportunities for community and civic engagement this month.  <\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n

\ndomestic water wells and groundwater. 
\nThe plumes are also discharging pollution into Felicita Creek in
\nviolation of water quality plans.  <\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
